NASA Launches Artemis 2 on First Attempt

In what was an indescribable event, NASA launched 4 humans towards the Moon on Wednesday afternoon. Just 10 minutes into the scheduled 2 hour window controllers gave the command for SLS to start its four liquid hydrogen burning RS-25 engines and ignited the mighty twin SRBs to propel those brave souls away from the launch pad. With a deafening roar the SLS rocket soared into the clear Florida sky and slipped the surly bonds of Earth and into the heavens.

NASA achieved what many thought unlikely, launching a crewed SLS on it’s first attempt. After the delays of Artemis 1, and the subsequent issues from the wet dress rehearsal of Artemis 2, there was much skepticism on whether this attempt would be successful on it’s first try. It wasn’t all smooth, in a historic moment, a NASA employee in the Fire Control Center had to literally run to the VAB to retrieve legacy Shuttle hardware to verify FTS signals for the SLS that weren’t being received by controllers. The issue was resolved and the countdown continued. Otherwise all went smoothly until liftoff.

Now, we’re going back.

The Launch Heaven team was onsite to capture Humankind’s return to the Moon.
