On the afternoon of December 22nd, Robert Lightfoot, ULA Lockheed Martin Board Chair, & Kay Sears, ULA Boeing Board Chair, made an announcement that has surprised many.

After 12 years of serving as ULA CEO & President, Tory Bruno will be stepping down from his role in pursuit of a new opportunity which has not yet been publicly announced. 5 hours before this announcement was made, an episode of Tory’s podcast “The Burn Sequence” was released on ULA’s social media channels. Tory made no formal statement about his departure in this podcast so it has come as a surprise to many that he is leaving so suddenly.

The ULA Board of Directors have selected John Elbon, COO of ULA, as a temporary Interim CEO stating “We have the greatest confidence in John to continue strengthening ULA’s momentum while the board proceeds with finding the next leader of ULA.” Senior Vice President of ULA, Mark Peller will be stepping into John’s role as COO.

While many are saddened to see Tory’s departure from ULA, he has still received a large influx of love and support from his followers across social media wishing him the best on his future endeavors.

There is still much unknown about why Tory resigned so suddenly and what the opportunities are that he is pursuing. Launch Heaven will provide any updates as new information is acquired.
